In Portugal's capital, community gardens, consumer cooperatives, and local actions are being created to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the environment. Acting in different areas, the projects have in common the will to promote sustainability and counteract the throwaway culture. In between, they strengthen ties and create new communities.
Project “Germinar um banco de sementes” was selected in the category of"Best Practices", a new initiative launched in the 11th edition of the Programme BIP/ZIP (Bairros e Zonas de Intervenção Prioritária de Lisboa), for innovative projects.
Throughout the new digital platform - www.germinar.pt - it is possible to request and share seeds from home, thus contributing to conserving the country's genetic heritage.
SimBIOse, which aims to disseminate national and international projects on food sustainability to raise awareness among the general consumer, published an article on our project.
More than 40 teachers learned about our project, in loco , during the Pedagogical Days of Environmental Education, organised by ASPEA, a day documented in the press.
In November 2019, the Natural Museum of Natural History and Science in Lisbon welcomed “Germinar um banco de sementes”’ students on a visit to the largest seed bank in Portugal.
The signing ceremony for the 2019 BIP/ZIP Programme took place in Lisbon on October 10, 2019, and was attended by CML's councillor for Housing and Local Development, Ana Paula Marques.
