Scientific name: Nasturtium officinale

Common name: Watercress, Cress

General description: It is an edible plant usually used in salads and can be found in the wild in wetlands such as rivers and streams. 

It is native to Europe and Central Asia, where it grows abundantly on the banks of rivers and streams. Its vitamin C potential has been known since the Middle Ages when it was used to combat scurvy.


 

Nutritional facts: contains several vitamins, among which: A, C, and group B (B1, B2, B6, and B12). It also has other elements such as iron, folic acid, sulfur, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iodine, beta carotene (which produces vitamin A), and fiber.


 


 GROWING CONDITIONS

Climate: Prefers a mild climate. Temperature between 10°C and 20°C, and needs good light.

Soil: Clayey, moist and fertile soils. The plant grows best when soil pH is neutral or slightly alkaline.

Watering: Abundant. It must always have a layer of water.

Sowing time: Any time of the year.

Harvest time: 60-80 days after sowing.
