General description: The carrot's wild ancestor is presumed to have originated in Central Asia. It has undergone various adaptations, which have reduced the bitter taste of its root but were initially used mainly by its aromatic leaves.
We have the following varieties:
- Carrot'Nantes' is a summer carrot of fast development and is quite productive.
- Carrot 'Rodelika' is a carrot variety with soft skin and a reddish-orange color.
- Carrot 'Jaune du Doubs' is an old variety with a yellow interior and an elongated shape.
Nutritional facts: It is rich in water, and lower in calories. It has vitamins B, C, and K and minerals like potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium. It is rich in beta-carotene, which is an antioxidant that prevents cardiovascular diseases.
GROWING CONDITIONS
Climate: It grows best in mild climates. There are adaptations to lower temperatures depending on the variety, but they always prefer places with good light.
Soil: Prefers aerated, cool, deep, clayey-calcareous soils, rich in organic matter and potassium.
Watering: Frequent.
Associations: Chard, Celery, Rosemary, Lettuce, Horseradish, Leek, Beans, Onion, Chives, Garlic, Pea, Spinach, Radish, Tomato, Leituga, Marjoram, Rosemary, Sage. It is protected from flies if planted next to leeks, onions, or peas.
Sowing time: March to May.
Harvest time: April to November.
