Scientific name: Spinacia olerácea

Common name: Spinach

General description: Spinach is a creeping herb native to central and southwestern Asia, belonging to the Amaranthaceae family, whose leaves are edible. It is an annual (rarely biennial) plant, growing to about 30 cm tall. Spinach can survive the winter in temperate zones.


We have seeds of the spinach variety 'Butterfly', which has very robust, juicy leaves and is a late-sprouting variety.


Nutritional facts: It offers both low energy value and high vitamin and mineral content. Noteworthies are the contents of vitamins A, B2, B6, C, E, and K and the minerals magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, and phosphorus. It is a considerable source of dietary fiber.


 


GROWING CONDITIONS

Climate: Adapts well to low temperatures. The ideal range is between 15 and 26°C. Temperatures above 26°C hinder germination.

Soil: Fertile, deep, well-drained, and rich in organic matter. The pH should be between 6.2 and 7.6.

Irrigation: Short and frequent irrigations. Especially in the last phase of the cycle. Drip irrigation is a good option for the crop. Water should not be put on the leaves because it can lead to fungal attacks.

Associations: Celery, Lettuce, Leek, Potato, Turnip, Beetroot, Cauliflower, Beans, Corn, Tomato, Strawberry, Radish, Radish, Savory, Marigold, Cabbage.

Sowing season: From August to April

Harvest time: From September to May
